Under the surface of the water

Croatia suffered a lot during World War 2 but today the many shipwrecks invite divers from all over the world to dive into history.

Wrecks at Rovinj, Istria:
"Baron Gautsch" –Probably the most famous shipwreck in the Adriatic. It is an Austrian steamship, which in 1914 sailed over a mine.
"HMS Coreolanus" – An English minesweeper that hit a mine in 1945. It is easy to dive in the wreck. Even the bathroom is still very well preserved.
"Giuseppe Dezza" – A torpedo ship build in 1913-1915 in Italy. Today you find it at a depth of 30-35 metres.
"John Gilmore" – (the name is probably comes of a salvaged and looted ship) is not the name of the ship but the name of an English shipyard. The ship probably sank in the last part of the last century.

Wrecks at Peljesac, Southern Dalmatia:
"High speed boat S57" – The wreck is further out in the water but is very well preserved e.g. the canons are still in very good condition.

Wrecks at Dubrovnik, Southern Dalmatia:
"Taranto" – A very interesting shipwreck, which is inhabited by a lot of shoals of fish.

Flora and fauna
As a diver you have the opportunity to see conger eel, codfish and perch. The typical flora and fauna in the Mediterranean also offers octopus, hermit crabs and magnificent corales.
